Tasting Notes
This enticing wine has delicate aromas of honeysuckle blossom,
peach and tangerine with a slight minty overtone.
Mediumbodied and nicely balanced, its crisp acidity and
dryness make it a perfect match for shellfish or fruit
salad. Best enjoyed young and fresh, it should be
consumed by the summer of 2008. Serve ice cold in
chilled glasses. Vintage 2006 A mid-October harvest is
unusual for this varietal, but record rainfall and cool
soil temperatures delayed the growing season by five or
six weeks. Long hang-time and cool autumn nights
intensified the tropical aromas and green-apple flavor
characteristic of California-grown Pinot Grigio. The
Lucas and Lewellen vineyard is located near Los Alamos
in Northern Santa Barbara County, an ideal site for this
cool weather-loving Italian varietal. Winemaking We
harvested ultra-ripe bunches in the early morning to
preserve freshness and maximize natural acidity. The
juice was allowed to settle clean, then fermented at a
very cold temperature until completely dry, and stored
ice-cold in stainless steel up until the day of
bottling. Minimal handling in the cellar, and no use of
oak or Malolactic fermentation ensures that this wine is
a pure expression of its terroir. |
