Tasting Notes
As you pour this lovely plum-hued wine, perfumy notes of carnation
and malt-chocolate aromas are the first to waft out of
your glass. Ripe cherry and salmonberry dominate, and
then subtle nuances of tar and basil evolve. The flavors
are no less complex; as blueberry, malt and caramel
taste leads to a supple finish. Perfect for pairing with
Middle-East cuisine, or just sipping poolside with
friends. Serve at room temperature. Enjoy now or cellar
age until 2008. Vintage 2003 2003 gave us a difficult
growing season, but quality seems to be quite good as a
result of judicious vineyard practices throughout the
year. A late start in the vineyard because of cool
spring temperatures gave way to a warm summer that was
marked by several small rain events and a number of heat
spikes. The fall weather was very nice, maintaining warm
weather that fully ripened everything by the end of
October, before the first rains. Overall, the vintage
produced wines with loads of fruit and above average
ripeness and alcohol levels. Winemaking Paso Robles is
quickly gaining a reputation for producing excellent
Rhone-style wines and is already well-known for its
Bordeaux varietals. The best of these old-world
traditions, with a California attitude, is showcased in
this appealing wine. We chose exemplary barrel lots of
each varietal after cellar aging was complete, and
blended to achieve balance and elegance. The result is
truly a “reflection” of the unique Paso Robles terroir. |
