Tasting Notes
A wonderfully fruity and balanced wine, the intense aromas of
raspberry and cassis are complimented by dusty and spicy
notes. Medium-bodied, the bold blackberry flavor and
creamy structure lead to a lengthy finish. Serve with
eggplant in Marinara sauce or a custard-based dessert.
Vintage 2004 The 2004 vintage was the final year of a
five-year drought, so vegetation and crop yield were
smaller than normal, resulting in intensification of
color, body and flavor. Both the spring and summer were
hotter than average, and with a dry and mild fall, there
was ample hang-time for full, even ripening. Winemaking
The Classic Zinfandel is crafted to be accessible and
food-friendly, starting in the vineyards. We harvested
evenly-ripened bunches from low-yielding vines at
moderate sugar levels, to avoid excessive alcohol.
Fermented to dryness, the wine was aged mainly in
upright oak casks, with no new oak added. The result is
an enticing wine with bright fruit, superb balance, and
that is easy on the palate. |
